What bnkops is
A co-op, not a company.
bnkops is a community technology co-operative. We pool the gear, tools, skills, and self-hosted software that community organizations need — and we share them at member rates, governed by the people who actually use them. No shareholders, no extraction, no surveillance.
Seven principles we run on
CO-OPERATIVE FUNDAMENTALS01
Voluntary & open membership
Open within our community — you join by invitation from another member, never by harvest or hard sell.
02
Democratic member control
One member, one vote. The people who use bnkops decide how it runs — not capital.
03
Member economic participation
Members contribute and share fairly. Surplus circulates back as capacity, not profit off the top.
04
Autonomy & independence
Self-hosted and self-governed. No platform owner can change the terms or read our data.
05
Education & training
We teach what we know. Skills and know-how move freely through the commons.
06
Cooperation among co-ops
We work alongside other co-ops and community orgs — stronger together than alone.
07
Concern for community
Rooted in Edmonton. We build local capacity and aim to leave the place better.
How capacity circulates
STEP 01
Pool
Gear, tools, and skills get listed in one shared, legible inventory.
STEP 02
Share
Members rent gear at member rates and request skills from one another.
STEP 03
Circulate
A mutual-credit hour ledger keeps the giving and getting balanced — and celebrated.
